| Moving? Plan ahead! |
When you're moving to a new home, some chores need to be done in advance and others must wait until the last minute, so make a list now of what to do and when to do it.
For example: Eight weeks before the move make a list of things you intend to take with you. If you're moving out of town, subscribe to a newspaper to learn about your new community. If you're using a mover, contact one now for an estimate. Get copies of school, medical, tax, and legal records.
Four weeks in advance start using up frozen foods and cleaning supplies. Send change-of-address cards. Contact utilities to discontinue services and start them at your new location. Pack items you seldom use. Hold a garage sale.
During the last two weeks, close your bank account and open one at the new location. Empty your safe deposit box. Service your car. Make a list of emergency phone numbers and addresses. And pack.
