| How Long Will My House Last? |
Look around central Missouri at some of the nineteenth century homes that are still alive and well, and you will know that your house could last 100 years or more. Many of your home's parts, however, have much shorter lives.
Your roof can last as long as your house--depending on what it is made of and how it was installed. A slate roof can last hundreds of years. But slate roofs are rare in Mid-Missouri--probably due to their high cost--up to $1,000 a square--which is 100 square feet. Clay tiles (those beautiful roofs used with Spanish-type architecture) should last 50 to 100 years. Their cost will run $300 to $500 a square. Cedar shake roofs should last 25 to 40 years and will cost around $200 a square. Composition shingles will last 15 to 30 years, and cost $60 to $110 a square.
