| How Long Will My House Last? Part II |
If your house is made of brick or stone you can expect it to last more than a hundred years, metal siding will last 20 to 50 years, vinyl siding up to 50 years, and wood siding--anywhere from 10 to 100 years. Color-Lok siding is warranted for 25 years. Dri-Vit is relatively new, but the manufacturers say that buildings are more than 25 years old and still look great.
The life expectancy of flooring will vary. Carpeting can last 15 to 20 years or more if it is installed over quality padding. Vinyl 10 to 15 years or more. Hardwood, slate, terrazzo, or marble floors should last the life of your home.
As for other components--copper wiring should last 100 years, plumbing fixtures will depend in large part on the hardness of your water, kitchen cabinets 15 to 20 years; a wood deck about 15 years, and an asphalt driveway about 10 years.
