| Financing Home Improvements |
Here are some more about mistakes to avoid when you are thinking about improving your home. Last time we talked about the dangers of overimproving, of doing too much at once, and of failing to observe zoning regulations and subdivision restrictions.
The fourth mistake many home improvers make is failing to take advantage of the home's existing systems. You can cut remodeling costs by placing new heating, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical systems close to their existing counterparts. You'll reduce costs by decreasing the distances to be covered by new pipes, electrical wires, heating ducts or sewer lines.
And the fifth mistake is the temptation to be trendy. You are much better off to stick to basics and conservative design. Otherwise, when you are ready to sell, your home may linger on the market because its ""trendy"" features have become hopelessly dated. Call or e-mail me for a free booklet which recommends some quick and inexpensive fix-ups to help you get your home ready for the market.
