| Building Your Dream Home Phase III |
We have been talking about building your dream home--determining your wants and needs, and developing the design. The next step is the construction phase. The architect will prepare construction documents which the contractor will use to establish actual construction cost and to build your new home. When these are finished, you are ready to hire the general contractor.
You can select a contractor and negotiate fees and costs, or you can request bids on the project. Some people prefer to act as their own general contractor or to do part or all of the construction themselves. Be sure you know what you are getting into if you decide to follow this path.
Once construction begins, your project moves from an abstraction to a physical reality. Just be aware that it always takes longer than you thought and always costs more than you expected. But when you finally move into your dream home, it will all have been worth it.
